BLOG #6: Post-Project Reflection

Sadly, what I envisioned as the end result of this project did not happen :(
During the planning process, I thought that many people would come. However, on the day of the event, only five people showed up. However, on the bright side we were able to cleans 4-5 classrooms. At least the the classrooms will be cleaner and tidier for a substantial period of time.

Before I did this project, I thought that at least twelve people would come since many people said that they are interested. However, a day before the event happen, volunteers unexpectedly dropping out. It is pretty sad that only five people came.

Throughout this project I had faced with a couple problems. The major problem that I had to go through was when people dropping out a day before the event happen. People sign-up because they were interested, but on the day the event happen  they did not show up. About fifteen people sign-up, but only five show up. Not even half of those who sign-up show up :( It still surprised me even though I already knew that this would happen. I did not expected it to be that bad. I tried to do many things to stop this problem from occurring; however, it still happened anyway.

On the bright side, with five people, we were able to clean the classrooms. The rooms look neat, clean, and organize. The computer are clean and straighten. Trashes on the floors are gone and drawings on tabletop are vanished. I'm proud that even thought there were only five people, we were able to accomplish our goal and make our school looks cleaner and nicer. We were able to wipe all the germs out of the tables and chairs :p

With all the problems that I faced during this project, now I'm able to fix my plan for the next project. I learned that I should survey people first before doing a project. I should ask them if they are interested in it and would they come. Also, it would be a good idea to ask them to list the dates that they are free. In addition, for this project I went to each club to announced about it; however, I realized that I should also make posters and flyers. In order to make the next project successful, I need to do a better job at advertising.

What I should work on for next time is to be more outgoing. Don't feel reluctant with talking to different people. I still have a lot to work on to become a better leader. I need to know how to grab people attention. I need to inspire and get others excited about what I'm doing. I should be more involve and outgoing. By talking to people, I can complete my project successfully. In addition, I should make the event more interesting so that people would come.

For this project, Anthea was the only one who help. As a partner, we did pretty well. We were able to go through all the clubs to advertise this event.

I haven't finalize my idea for my next project yet. Some of the things that I am consider doing right now helping out the Highline Food Banks and volunteer at the library (individually--only me).

BLOG #5: Campus Clean-Up

Throughout this project, I tried to keep myself on top of everything. I was able to meet these milestones. I tried to keep myself organize and alert. With the helps from my peers and teachers, I was able to successfully meet the milestones and completed the project. My phone and planner are the two objects that keep me ahead of everything. I used my phone as my reminder. I create events and then on that day my phone would reminds me to do what I am suppose to do. My planner on the other hand allowed me to plan everything out so that I would not make any mistake. Without these two objects and help from my peers, I would not be able to accomplish all these milestones. By meeting these milestones, I was able to put together a campus clean-up :)

BLOG #4: Campus Clean-Up Milestone

May 3, 2011

On Tuesday the 3rd of May, I emailed to everyone who were interested in coming. The email was like a reminder. In the email, I asked people to tell me whether they can come or not. I noticed that not everyone reply to my email. Some of the people who told me that they can come never reply to my email as well. Overall, I think this was not as successful as I wish because I was expected that many people would reply, but eventually only two people replied. In the email I clarify everything. I also bold all the important information. In the "subject" line I capitalize everything so that it would pop out. However, as a result, I think people might not see the email or they just ignore it.
Moreover, on that day I wrote a letter to Kelly reminding him about the campus clean-up. Since he is the one to provide all the materials, I need to remind him. On April 13th, I talked to him briefly about this event. I gave him all the information, and list of materials. However, I did not write it down for him. It was a verbal conversation. I decided to write a letter to him on the 5th which served as a reminder. In the letter, I lists all the informations (i.e. when, where, why, and what) and I also list all the materials that I needed.

BLOG #3: Campus Clean-Up Milestones

Completed by: April 28, 2011

During club Anthea and I went to most of clubs in our school to talk about this campus clean-up. We did not go to the upperclassman clubs because of AP testing. Since this event occur during the AP testing window, we decided not to go bother the juniors and seniors. During this process, we gave people the description of this project (i.e. dates, time, what we will do and etc.). Then we asked people who are interested to raise their hands and we would give them a paper to write down their names and emails. About seven to eight people were interested in helping; however, some of them said that they can't guarantee that they will make it. As a result, I was able to meet this milestone. But sadly not many people can come and help making our campus cleaner :(

Next Steps:
-May 3, 2011 (Tuesday): Email to everyone about the campus clean-up. This email is like a reminder.      (People who gave me their emails)
-May 5, 2011 (Thursday): Remind Kelly--all the materials needed)
